On the eve of new year, the clouds unexpectedly cleared for about three hours. Transparency and seeing were fair, the air dry, but I knew it won't last for long, so, I surrendered autoguiding the Samyang 135 which had a 50mm lens piggybacked for parallel capture of constellations. Fair enough, the result were two sets of two images each:

1. M35/NGC2174 and the constellation of Orion (Dec 31 LT).
2. M44 and the constellation of Canis Major (Jan 1st LT).

As usual, the spectacle was ended by new clouds rolling in, however, since the forecast was everything else but hopeful, this little simple session was quite a bit of luck. This time with bias and flats since the wide open 135mm lens tends to vignetting. Humidity was no issue.

Dithering by foot eliminated need for darks. A tripod has three legs. If you kick'm one by one, then, after the third kick, the image assumes its before-first-kick position and all is good. The remaining dithering is merely 'kick at will'. My next e-booklet will be about Deep Space Imaging. Title: Get the kick out of it!

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
